The course will be held at the IHS Building on the campus of Erasmus, University Rotterdam. The campus is located in the eastern part of the city and can be reached by public transport from other parts of the city.

The address of the campus is: IHS is located in the Mandeville Building which is located centrally on the university campus.

The food-court is equipped with several take-aways and cafes are located just around the corner from the building of IHS. Participants can buy their lunches on days of the course there.

Details of the Program

DAY 1: SUNDAY

starts 13.30 hrs

A bus trip ( starts 1.30 pm )through the western part of Netherlands setting the context for the participants, on how the disciplines of infrastructure planning and design, landscape architecture and urban planning have been interwoven in the development of cities and landscapes in Netherlands.

Netherlands : a land of balanced high density of population but also high-density urban mobility infrastructure as the logistic hub of Western Europe. Sea and shore-lines, rivers and canals, dikes and ( water)defence systems, cycle paths and networks, pedestrian routes and precincts, ecological networks and ecoducts, railway-lines and high-speed trans-Europe connections and energy systems and e-mobility.

DAY 2: MONDAY

AFTERNOON BUS TRIP starts 1.30 pm: Visit to Utrecht and Leidsche Rijn : combining motorway with a park and an urban district. Demonstrating universal accessibility in public transportation: Hester van Gent ( Utrecht City Corporation ) ( MLC )

AFTERNOON BUS TRIP starts 1.30 pm: Coastal zone and a visit to the extraordinary parking garage under the dunes in Katwijk. Lecture by DHV and possibly, Rijkswaterstaat on Building with Nature

DAY 4: WEDNESDAY

DAY 5: THURSDAY

DAY BUS TRIP starts 11.00 am: Visit to the River Waal project in Nijmegen (how issues of flood prevention have been combined the creation of large recreational public spaces)( talk by landscape architect of City Corporation) and Paleiskwartier in s’Hertogenbosch where the water basin on top a large parking garage works as a solar collector and the whole has been used to create the central public space in a large-scale redevelopment, and the Paleisbrug ( a pedestrian-cycling bridge which doubles up as a linear park) ( talk by Sonja de Jong, City Corporation).

DAY 6: FRIDAY

AFTERNOON WORKSHOP: Exercise for participants in 5-6 groups of 5-6 persons.
